We are teens club HOHMAchi from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Yes, that’s right! Even in such a small country as ours, there is a Jewish community. Here are a few more surprising facts about us: we are not a part of another country, we are not nomads, we do not keep camels as pets, we are dwellers of Chuisk valley, we have amazing mountains and we are a quite developed country. You will learn a lot of other interesting information if you visit us one day.
In 2000 when the majority of us hadn’t been born yet, our teens club started its work. With the passing of time, the participants of the club have changed, moved to other countries, and the activity of the club has fallen. But in 2017 the club was revived and we started enhancing it, thus changing its name from Noar to HOHMAchi.
Hohma means wisdom in Hebrew, while in Russian the same word with another stressed syllable means a joke. The distinctive feature of Jewish people is that even in the most difficult situation we don’t lose our sense of humous and are able laugh at ourselves. Out slogan is gam ze le tova, meaning that is all for the best. We actively participate in the big community holiday celebrations, volunteer, and keep opening new sides Jewish world together.
In 2018 we visited an AJT seminar and the AJT convention that impressed us greatly. We are sure that it is just the beginning of our partnership!
